The Annual Community Memorial Day Service for Japanese-American Veterans is held every year in May at the Fairmount Cemetery in Denver. It is held to honor all Japanese-American Veterans who were members of military units organized during World War II. This memorial service is held by the Nisei Veterans Heritage Foundation, Simpson United Methodist Church, Tri-State/Denver Buddhist Temple, and community volunteers. About 150 people, including Mr. Calvin Hada, Former President of the Nikkeijin-Kai of Colorado, as well as members of Japan American Society of Colorado, and Japanese-American veterans and their families, attended the ceremony. Consulate-General of Japan in Denver is also invited (Consul-General Mikami and Consul Furutani).
Over the decades, the memorial has become more of a Japanese American (JA) Veterans Memorial, with the names of all JAs with Colorado ties who served in the military etched on the other side of the planks. Local JA community organization members, like the JASSC board, attend with a floral tribute.
