Call for Volunteers

We are looking for awesome people, good with kids, to help run some activities. (crafting experience is good but not required)

Do you bake?

We will be having a charity bake sale and are looking for homemade treats that have Japanese flavors and/or aesthetics.

Children's Day

Join us for the 2026 Children's Day Festival!

Saturday, May 9th from 10 AM to 2 PM at the Pikes Peak United Way Family Success Center (1520 Verde Dr, Colorado Springs)!

Celebrate Children’s Day with a joyful day of hands-on activities, cultural experiences, and family fun. This annual festival brings the spirit of Japan to Colorado Springs and welcomes children and families of all backgrounds.

New this year: extended festival hours so families can enjoy even more activities!

What to Expect

Enjoy a variety of interactive stations and performances, including:

● Origami crafting

● Make-your-own koinobori (carp streamers)

● Traditional Japanese games such as kendama and daruma otoshi

● Modern festival games like bouncy ball scoop and shooting gallery

● Live musical and martial arts demonstrations, with opportunities to participate

● Gala Children’s Fashion Show featuring kimono, yukata, martial arts uniforms, and Asian-inspired outfits – dress to impress!

Soccer Camps with Switchback Yosuke Hanya

In conjunction with Children's Day, the Colorado Switchbacks soccer team is hosting two camps with Yosuke Hanya..

Same date and location as the Children's Day Festival!

Time: 10:15 am for the beginner / 11:00 am for the intermediate

Cost: $0 for children of members/ $5 for children of non-members (Bring your own ball)

Age: From 7 to 12 years old

12 slots available for Beginner and Intermediate camps -- First Come First Serve. Will send email with confirmation of placement

Conversation over Cookies

Free for members! If you're a member, just log in to enable the free ticket option. $5 for non-members.

Want to practice Japanese with real native speakers? Come join us for Conversation Over Cookies (COC), hosted on one Saturday every month! Regularly entertaining between 10 and 20 guests, this monthly conversation event allows everyone to practice their language skills, no matter what their skill level. ✋ Each table will have at least one native Japanese speaker, and groups are split into beginner, intermediate, and advanced. 

Bring a dessert or snack to share, and a water bottle to keep your talking muscles hydrated~~ (aka your lips and throat).

All levels of speakers are welcome!

We are looking for friendly Japanese-speaking helpers to join our conversation session with Japanese language learners at the event. If you enjoy chatting in Japanese and supporting learners in a relaxed, welcoming environment, we would love to have you join us! Interested in Building a Life and Career in Japan?

JETAA Tokyo and USJETAA are co-hosting a three-part discussion for JETs and alumni dreaming about building their next chapter in Japan. This will be an honest series of discussions with an awesome line-up of JET alums sharing the realities of choosing this path. If you happen to be in the Tokyo area, JETAA Tokyo is hosting Parts 1 & 3 in-person while USJETAA will be hosting this all online. So you can join from anywhere!

We are bringing you sincere, real-world guidance on how to stay in Japan after JET or return to Japan for professional opportunities from people who understand YOU.

In April, USJETAA and JETAA Tokyo are co-hosting Horizons, a three-part series designed to help you explore what it actually takes to build a life and career in Japan outside of JET.

Join us for one session or all three. Each session will include a panel discussion and time for Q&A. If you are in the Tokyo area, Parts 1 and 3 offer an in-person option so you can network and connect face-to-face with panelists and fellow JET alumni attendees.

Part 1: Making Japan Home After JET

A candid panel with recruiting professionals who are part of the JET family, covering how hiring works, where to find roles, how recruiters can help, what the job market looks like for foreign workers in Japan.

JP: Sat, April 25 @ 9am JT (virtual or in-person at the Temple University Japan Campus in Setagaya-ku, Tokyo)

Explore how graduate study in Japan can strengthen your in-country career path, featuring speakers from Temple University Japan Campus, GLOBIS University, and the Inter-University Center for Japanese Language Studies.

    • Golden Lotus Foundation - The GLF is working hard to build a botanical garden and tea house in Colorado Springs. They are always looking for volunteers, so sign up for their newsletter if you are interested!
    • NAJAS - the National Association of Japan America Societies is the hub of all other JAS in the US. 
    • Japan America Society of Colorado (Denver) - JASC is our closest sibling organization, with most of their happenings located in Denver. They have a community e-bulletin which they send out monthly as well. 
    • El Pomar Foundation - Elevating Leadership Development Program. The ELD program is run by the El Pomar foundation and creates "greater access and support for people of color in Southern Colorado to tap into their leadership potential for the benefit of community." Their quarterly meetings are free to attend and convene advisory councils for the following groups: Asian / Pacific Islander, Black, Hispanic, and Native American.

      • Consulate-General of Japan in Denver. This is your closest source for official Japanese Government information and assistance.
      • Keidanren USA is the U.S. liaison entity for Keidanren, the Japan Business Federation. Keidanren is a comprehensive Japanese economic organization with a broad membership consisting of 1,494 Japanese companies, 108 industry associations, and 47 regional economic organizations. Keidanren USA’s core mission is to facilitate more engagement by the Japanese business sector with the U.S. policymaking community, and to promote the very real contributions (in terms of investment and jobs) being made by Japanese companies to the U.S. economy.
